The endeavor to create a new icon began with an open letter to stakeholders in the company, and in a press release today, Rolls-Royce has announced that testing has officially begun.

Working under the name “Project Cullinan,” this new vehicle is being approached with the intention of providing the same driving experience both on and off of the road. In order to ensure this is possible, the “first engineering mule” is testing out an all-new suspension on as many types of terrains as possible, from concrete to cobblestone.

A few photos of the engineering mule were included along with the press release, but don’t expect for them to give away any styling clues or hints as to what this new model will look like.

“The body may hint at the size of the new car, but it features no design aspects of the eventual high-sided, all-terrain motor car announced by Rolls-Royce Motor Cars in February this year,” explained the release. The car shown in the images looks incredibly similar to a Ghost, featuring a four-door body and the unmistakable Rolls-Royce grille.

However, the rear features a rear wing, which is an interesting detail not typically found on cars from the prestigious marque.
