Mercedes-AMG GT

After a group of 75 automotive journalists from around the world deliberated and voted over the course of a year, the winners of the 2015 World Car Awards were announced at the New York International Auto Show, with Mercedes-Benz grabbing the lion’s share of recognition.

Mercedes-AMG GT, 2015 World Performance Car Award Recipient

The German manufacturer managed to win recognition for World Car of the Year, World Luxury Car and World Performance Car, while the design and green energy awards went to creations from Citroen and BMW, respectively. Literally months went into the deliberation process, as the World Car of the Year (WCOTY) website notes, with nominees for the categories first being presented in July and August, 2014.

A video uploaded by the organization to YouTube April 2 shows the awards ceremony at the New York International Auto Show, which is a location sponsor of the event. The BMW i8 was recognized as the 2015 World Green Car, while Citroen’s C4 Cactus received recognition for World Car Design of the year.

The Mercedes-Benz models recognized were the Mercedes-AMG GT as the World Performance Car, the S Coupe as the World Luxury Car and the C Class as overall Car of the Year.
